The Rýzmberk castle was significant border fortification which controlled the important trade path leading from Bavaria through the Všeruby Pass. The castle was founded in the 2nd half of the 13th century by the House of Drslavic in the time when the bohemian king Přemysl Otakar II. waged the border wars with the neighbouring Bavaria. The Thirty Years' Wars caused the destruction of the castle which was besieged many times, destroyed and not restored. In th mid-19th century a look-out tower and a small pub were built here and the ruins became the much frequented spot for tourists. At present you can visit the annual festival of country and folk songs called „Rýzmberský hradní guláš“ here. From the once impressed castle with three courtyards there were preserved only some parts of the walls with bastions and remainders of the old palace with underground cellars. |
